MoneyMap Education Courses MoneyMap is the name
of our series of educational programs. MoneyMap has several components.
First, we are proud to present the nationally acclaimed class called
Credit When Credit is Due which is a standardized course with pre and post
tests with measurable outcomes. The course teaches clients and students how to
gain and retain good credit. Anyone who successfully completes the class will
see that reward on his or her credit report. Actual events which occurred in a
credit counseling office were used to write the book.
Then, a course
called Get Checking is the second part of MoneyMap. Get Checking is designed to
help people learn to manage their checking accounts. Get Checking is possible
through a partnership with CheckSystems, e-funds, local lenders and Consumer
Credit Counseling Service of Northeastern Iowa.
Also as part of
MoneyMap, CCCS of Northeastern Iowa presents a course on renting practices
called Renting Today. Rental history is extremely important for people as they
ready themselves to buy their first homes or move to more expensive rental
properties. We present them with the tools necessary to be good renters. Karen
Atwood uses her 30-year experience as a landlord to provide the information.
Finally, we include a program called Make Your Move in our MoneyMap
series. This homeownership course is designed for people who want to buy their
first house. The course book is considered to be clear and easy to read.
Students learn from real-life situations so they can understand the entire
purchase process. |

Other Educational Programs
Plastic Prison
Our Plastic Prison course is designed
specifically for college students. Credit cards find their way into young
adults' hands easily these days. This course teaches those who have their whole
financial life ahead of them how to handle the pitfalls of high credit card
debt.
Special Programs Special programs such as employee
assistance and job training are also available to meet your individual needs.
CCCS-certified counselors teach these programs as well. |

Funding SourcesCCCS of Northeastern Iowa is
supported by a number of funding sources including:
- National and local grants
- Programs
- Fee-for-service arrangements
- National and local creditors through their fair
share contributions
Most of our funding comes from voluntary
contributions from creditors who participate in our Debt Management Plans.
Those plans serve the dual role of helping you repay your debts and helping
creditors collect money owed them.
The voluntary contributions are
calculated as a percentage of payments you make through your DMP---up to seven
percent of the payment you receive. Your accounts with your creditors will
always be credited with 100 percent of the amount you pay through us and we
will work with your creditors regardless of whether they contribute to our
agency. |
